Final Video

We decided on the title Mind Wonderer as it perfectly captures the mood of the video

I am really pleased with final outcome as it has been excellently filmed edited and storyboarded. The shots work really well especially the tear drop from the branch. What we could have done better was the lighting in the room was really poor, and we will make sure to correct that for next time.

Animation In Colour..

These are just some simple screenshots showing the development of my animation and the environment it takes place in. Last time there was a no colour and now there is. I am not 100 per cent on the colours currently and i may change the colour of the wall (bottom left) to a brick wall and maybe find a cleaner better quality wood texture rather than the stock one on Maya.

Environment..

This is the environment my animation takes place in. Its not finished yet hence lack of colour.

I added the trees, slope barbed wire and gate to add more realism and detail to the environment.

Storyboard for My Animation..

This is the story board showing my animation. I used Maya to create this as it was easier to show angles and the environment..

Small Tank driving around
Meets a Bigger tank
Bigger tank intimidates then....
....threatens the smaller tank
smaller tank runs away
bigger tank has won and chases the smaller one
and rounds the corner and gets a surprise
The larger tank gets a taste of his own medicine
from the largest tank
The larger tank runs away

Very simple story and environment but I chose this because it would be easy to animate well and once textures and other details are added it will look much better..

The Shoot..

On Sunday just gone we trekked to Esholt Woods to film the video we had been preparing for the last month or so. We had a minor catastrophe early on the morning of the shoot as our actor had bailed and we had to ask our make up artist to step in and save the film. This was one of the only obstacles on an otherwise great day of filming. We got some really nice shots of the river and of the trees and as I speak are being edited into the final video.
The other mistake that we made was that the blue filter we used for some of the shots of the river was far to vibrant to make it look realistic. This was only a minor problem and we learned from this and will help us in the future.
We also need to film the final bedroom scene as we ran out of time on the day, this is however not an issue as we are doing it this wednesday and during the time between the two shoots (now) we have time to work on the next video as well as edit, blog, post production and add sounds to the first video..

AutoDesk Maya..

AT-AT Underside view

AT-AT front view

AT-AT Side View

TAI Fighter Left Side

TAI Fighter Right side

These are all models designed on AutoDesk Maya. I copied images from the internet of a TAI Fighter and a AT-AT from the Star Wars Saga. Both took at a lot of effort and time but were worth it for the results as well as helping me improve my skills.

Directing ..

I opted for the job of directing the piece as I have liked the idea of doing this for a very long time. My role had me thinking ALOT about the poem and its different meanings. This involved thinking through my interpretations of the poem as well as what the author had originally intended it to mean. It also involved me putting ideas together which were mine as well as the others in the team as well.

I have enjoyed directing so far as it allows me to give ideas for others to develop which i have struggled to do in the past. The directing role has also helped confirm my career choice as a director because my ideas, as aforementioned, have had trouble getting themselves onto paper/screen in the past.

I have also thought about what my future tasks and challenges will be, such as: giving actors motivation and placing camera and sound me as well as setting the scene and getting a good opening shot. Obviously i will be helped a lot by the rest of the team such as Phil editing as well as Dan and Adam storyboarding to make the film tighter, neater and as perfect and clear cut as we can make it.

I also had an idea for a song for the film which seemed to gain positive feedback from Dan and Phil especially the intro. The intro is a soft melodic guitar which I think works really well with the forrest and its still atmosphere.

First Ideas/Musings over the Ghazal Poem..

The beginning of the project started with brainstorming ideas to go onto the story boards. I noticed the autumn references arising constantly in the words of the poem. Mostly because they were pretty blatant due to the word 'autumn' coming up a lot. Despite the fact it was used very blatantly i decided to use this as the main theme.

I saw shots and images of:
- Dead leaves falling from withered trees
- Leaves floating on the breeze while the camera follows them listlessly.
- Shots of forests and of rivers with the cold water running over the steely grey rocks covered with moss and algae.
